Ostrow Yard

Wrocław · Lower Silesia · on the Odra

Forty-one rooms in a grain store on the river

Barges still pass under the windows. The brick arches on the ground floor were built to hold sacks of rye, and the hoist in the stairwell is still where it always was. From the top landing you can count four bridges without turning your head.

There's a small casino on the first floor of this same building, one flight up from the lobby. Breakfast runs late and the bar runs later, and the Rynek is a twenty-minute walk along the water.

Stay

Three ways to sleep in a granary

Forty-one rooms over five floors. The walls are thick and the window reveals deep, and no two rooms are quite the same shape, since the building settled the floor plan long before we did.

  • Room type 01

    Arch Room

Ground and first floor, set inside the original loading arches, with a window seat cut into a wall almost a metre thick.

    • Queen bed
    • Walk-in shower
    • Courtyard side
  • Room type 02

    Hoist Gallery

Third floor, facing the stairwell hoist, with the old beam left exposed above the desk and a long view down the landing.

    • King bed
    • Desk and reading chair
    • Exposed beam
  • Room type 03

    Bridge Loft

Top floor under the pitched roof, river side, with two windows that frame the bridges and the lights on the far bank after dark.

Eat & drink

Four rooms with something in them

All four are on the lower floors and open to anyone who walks in off ul. Spichrzowa. The mood is relaxed, whether you're a guest or a neighbour.

  • Młyn Kitchen

Lunch and dinner · ground floor

Silesian cooking under the arches: duck with grey dumplings, river fish when the market has it, and a short list of Lower Silesian wine from Winna Góra.

  • The Hoist Bar

    From 4pm · mezzanine

Eleven stools, a zinc counter and the hoist chain running past the end of it. The rye whisky is good, the vermouth better, and the cocktail menu fits on a single page.

  • Kawiarnia Odra

    7am to 6pm · river terrace

Coffee and cake on the quay side, six tables outside from April. Barges go past close enough to read the names on the hulls.

  • Baker's Step

    Breakfast until 11.30am

The old weighing room, now four long tables and a counter. Eggs are cooked to order, there are cured meats on the board, and the rye bread comes up from the bakery downstairs, baked at five in the morning.

On the first floor

Ostrow Yard Casino, the casino upstairs from our lobby

18+

Ostrow Yard Casino is inside this building, one floor above the lobby. Walk through the lobby and take the brick stairwell past the grain hoist, or the lift if you prefer. The trip takes under a minute and you never step outdoors. The casino is a single room, roughly the footprint of the old sorting floor, with a few tables and a bar in the corner, and it opens in the evenings, seven nights a week.

Please wear a collar; sportswear and beach shoes won't do. Entry is 18 and over, and door staff check photo ID on every visit, including for guests who are staying in the hotel. Limits at each table are set on the floor by our own staff and change through the week, so ask before you sit down. To exclude yourself from the casino, come to the reception desk and we'll arrange it with you in person. It can't be done any other way.

This is a land-based casino inside a hotel in Wrocław. The website describes the building, the rooms and the casino floor. It offers no online casino games, takes no bets and accepts no deposits or payments.

Getting around

Where the building sits

  • Wrocław Główny station is about 2.5 km south. A taxi takes ten minutes outside rush hour; the walk along Oławska is pleasant and takes a little over half an hour.
  • Trams stop two streets away. Three lines pass the corner towards the centre, and the same stop sends you east to Sępolno. Buy tickets from the machine on board or on your phone.
  • The Rynek is a 20-minute walk upstream along the water, past the market hall. Ostrów Tumski and the cathedral are closer still: fifteen minutes over two bridges.
  • Copernicus Airport lies 13 km west. The 106 bus runs to the main station in forty minutes; a car takes roughly twenty-five, more when the ring road is busy.
